Less than 30 minutes away from the island’s cruise ship hub in Falmouth is Hampden Estate, home to one of Jamaica’s oldest rum distilleries. Hampden is hidden away amongst the sugar cane fields in the majestic Queen of Spain Valley, and continues to make rum the traditional way, very much like it was done nearly 260 years ago when this sugar estate was first established.
For over two centuries, Hampden has produced a heavy pot still rum, known for its flavour and aroma. It was only in 2011 that the distillery started producing its own bottled rum and immediately started making an impact on the rum world, winning a number of medals in the last 3 years.
Join us on the Hampden Rum Tour and discover some of the mysteries of rum making. Learn a little of our rich Jamaican history and hear more about Hampden’s first owners, the Stirling family of Scotland, who came to Jamaica seeking fortune in sugar and rum. Explore the grounds that surround the magnificent Great House. Visit the distillery, get a sneak peak of the Fermentation House, and find out how pot still distillation works.
At the end of the tour, there will be time to relax and rap with our tour guides, while you sample rum punch and our two award winning rums, the exceptionally smooth white overproof Rum Fire and the Hampden Estate Gold.
