Located in Montego Bay, the Sangster International Airport is the number-one airport used by travellers because of its proximity to the resort areas such as Ocho Rios and Negril.
This is the fourth busiest airport in the Caribbean with over three million passengers every year, which is twice the amount of the Norman Manley International Airport. This airport underwent some recent renovations, which have significantly improved the atmosphere of the airport along with the quality of service.
Customs and Immigration
When you approach customs, you will notice three sections for Persons declaring, persons not declaring items and special need persons.
If you are declaring, ensure that you have all your invoices and a form of payment.
Complete the immigration form from in flight or before you join the line. The immigration officer will also need to look at your passport, custom’s declaration form and your return ticket.
A wide variety of food outlets and restaurants serving Jamaican dishes are available. There are also a few gift shops for persons wishing to buy last minute souvenirs such as paintings, t- shirts, books, music and jewellery.
Transportation
The most popular form of transportation from Montego Bay airport is charted taxi.
Charted taxis will take you directly to your destination and will only make stops on your request.
Official Taxi companies located at the airport are: JUTA and JCAL.
Cost US$100 for one to four persons to go to Negril and US$25 for each extra person.
Large groups can charter a tour operator bus to the hotel. Small families can charter a licensed taxi to their destination.
There is also the option of renting a car. Hertz, Island, Budget International, Avis and Thrifty are the five car rental companies available at the airport.
