OBF has been manufacturing high quality bamboo furniture and accessories since 1990.
OBF’s chief executive officer is John Hamilton who is one of the original founders of the Company. He was born and grew up on Caymanas Estates located just outside Kingston, Jamaica and it is here that OBF is situated. John’s parents, who are of Scottish origin, farmed sugar cane, cattle and thoroughbred racehorses on the estate.
John was sent off at an early age to the UK for an education and although he graduated with a Diploma in Agriculture, the idea of farming soon lost out to his dream of making bamboo furniture similar to the type that he saw on a visit to Thailand.
After a stint of working with crews making movies in Jamaica, he decided to pursue his dream using bamboo that grows in Jamaica.
Since then OBF has carved out a distinct market niche for its products in Jamaica and internationally. Many homes, hotels and restaurants have our furniture and other bamboo home decor and new orders from past customers now form a large part of our business. The key to our success is the production of high quality bamboo outdoor and bedroom furniture with stylish and unique designs and providing high levels of service to all our clients.
Facts on Bamboo used in manufacturing.
Bamboo is one of the fastest growing plants in the world and it has the capacity to readily replenish itself after reaping, provided that it is properly harvested.
Bamboo is also valuable environmentally because of its high leaf surface area. This makes it a very efficient agent in the removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and generating oxygen in its place.
Bamboo has a very high tensile strength and once properly cured and treated is very durable.
OBF uses the Bambusa Vulgaris variety to make our furniture. It is the most abundant variety that grows in many areas of Jamaica and its use for the manufacture of furniture contributes to the rural economy of the island.
