The Jamaica Bauxite Mining Limited (JBM) is a registered limited liability company, established to act as the representative for the Government of Jamaica (GOJ) in partnerships established with multi-national entities operating in the bauxite and alumina industries. It was incorporated on 13 February 1975 and operates as a Public Body.
 
JBM was formed to manage the assets of the Government, acting as custodian for GOJ properties and investment assets in the bauxite and alumina industry. The Company holds a fiduciary responsibility to protect the assets of the Government, while making sound decisions that will achieve maximum returns on the investment of those assets. The vision and mission of the Company focuses on optimising both the social and financial returns on GOJ sector investment, while promoting expansion and development in the bauxite and mining sector that will not bring harm to the environment.
 
The company has three functionaries. They are:
 
Property management. This functionary manages the operations of its residential and commercial properties, having oversight of equipment, tooling and physical capital assets that are acquired and used to build, repair and maintain end item deliverables. It is responsible for handling the security of the facility, overseeing the distribution of building and office keys and observing security monitors, overseeing construction, renovation and maintenance projects, building equipment and maintenance of signage, lawn and exterior areas.
 
Port management.The pier accommodates both passenger vessels, and cargo vessels for sugar and limestone shipments and deals with:
 
Movement of ships, containers, and other cargo;
Loading and unloading of ships and containers;
Customs activities; and
Organising human resources, anchorage, channels, lighters, tugs, and berthing.
Finance and administration. The division is responsible for statutory compliance, and proper implementation of JBM’s policies through enforcement of rules and regulationsto ensure efficiency in day-to-day running of the offices. This involves:
 
Ensuring processes are in keeping with GOJ guidelines;
Overseeing proper implementation of business processes;
Seeing to effective and efficient communication throughout the organization and particularly among departments;
Carrying out the purchasing and inventory management functions;
Managing office systems; and
Recruiting and training employees, seeing to employee welfare, reporting on employee performance.
