Lincoln Gordon the Founder of Lincoln's Natural Spices & Seasonings processes and packages up 23 different products, including natural seasonings and spices, herbal teas and porridge such as arrow root and plantain in powdered form.
Gordon says, "I used to operate a jerk shop at home and so I developed a spicy all in one seasoning to put on the meat. I realised that people enjoyed the taste and aroma. So I thought maybe I could bottle it and sell it, and that is where it all began"
That initiative earned him a place at Denbigh Agricultural Show where he was encouraged to bottle the sauce for sale.
Shortly thereafter he developed powdered version of the all purpose jerk sauce.
Inside Mr Gordon's small hi-tech factory where most of his processing & packaging is done. All the machinery and equipment used is made by Mr Gordon. Putting his knowledge and expertise as an engineer into practice, he single-handedly puts every nut, bolt and screw together to make whatever piece of equipment is needed for processing & packaging.
Gordon purchases only local produce from the suppliers they are cleaned and dried, using a very simple procedure and then taken to the factory where they are chopped, ground, strained and packaged. Processing depends on the type of product.
One special tea that Gordon processes is the Ball Moss. Otherwise known as Old Man's Beard, has anti-cancer properties.
His products are already in sale in many supermarkets and wholesales in Clarendon and he hopes to expand across the island. However, Gordon said that there is always room for improvement and the export market.
