The Petroleum Company of Jamaica Limited (PETCOM) was incorporated in 1973 as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) to market a variety of petroleum products, industrial fuels and lubricants. The company did not become active until 1984 with its first sale of solvents, and confirmation of a contract to supply fuel to the Caribbean Cement Company.
In 1986, we began to market our products aggressively, seeking new opportunities for supplying petroleum products and lubricants to the transportation sector, LPG to the domestic and industrial markets, and asphalt, heavy fuel and diesel oils to the industrial sector.
In November 1989, we opened our first service station in Portmore, St. Catherine, the only company-operated station in the network and the largest in the Caribbean at the time. In three years we had expanded our service station network to 28. Today there are 28 PETCOM stations islandwide, many equipped to meet growing consumer deman d for items needed at a rest stop. Some of our stations feature Food Marts, while others offer car wash, oil and tyre change, and vehicle accessories.
As a government agency, PETCOM’s role in stabilising prices in the energy sector is critical in today’s market. We are meeting that mandate as we seek to fulfill our corporate mission to build a company that is responsive to consumer needs, profitable in its operations, and socially responsible, while effecting positive changes in the petroleum trade.
PETCOM markets a variety of petroleum products, industrial fuels and lubricants. We began selling solvents before moving into supplying petroleum products and lubricants to the transportation sector.
