Dr. James Mills is a native of Ghana. He studied medicine and general surgery in West Germany. He later came to Jamaica where he attained a PhD degree in Physiology at the University of West Indies, Mona.

Furthermore he is a former prominent medical educator at the University of the West Indies (Mona) where he lectured and tutored in the Faculty of Medical Sciences.
He also developed a course in Structure and Function that has been used in the new curriculum in the Faculty of Medical Science, Mona since 2001.
His mission is to create global awareness of stress and stress related diseases by applying scientific principles. In 2016, Dr. Mills opened a medical facility called “The Stress Solutions”, located in Kingston, Jamaica, where he applies the concept of stress expressed in his book to measure stress levels in patients and hence assist in managing stress-related diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, cancer, among other diseases.
His concept of the management of stress is that the cause is based on negative cognitive appraisal leading to perception of the stressor.
The treatment should therefore involve structuring of the cognitive appraisal to a positive perception, when possible, and be supplanted by adjuncts that can improve the restructuring process for the individual to cope with the situation.
