Arnold L. Malabre & Company is one of the oldest businesses in Kingston, Jamaica. Its historical connections date as far back as 1825 when the nucleus was formed under the style of William Titley & Company as hardware and commission agents. In 1842 Arnold Malabre, upon attaining a college education in England, became attached to William Titley & Company in Jamaica.

 

Arnold rose through the ranks and was viewed in such high esteem by his employer that when William Titley Jr. retired in 1856, the firm became known as Arnold L. Malabre & Company. The designation which it has retained to present day, and one which has always been synonymous with commercial uprightness and capability wherever the firm’s dealings have extended.

 

Although still dealing in general hardware, Arnold L. Malabre & Company continually developed their activities as steamship agents, ship brokers, coal contractors and commission merchants obtaining correspondence from virtually all regions of the globe. Their offices in South Street were attached to the pier, 500 ft. in length the large yard and warehouse area being the scene of continuous shipping activity. Today Arnold L. Malabre & Company Limited continues as one of the oldest Steamship agents in Jamaica.
