The International University of the Caribbean (IUC) is an institution which draws on a long tradition of experience in the field of education and represents one of the most insightful responses to the realities and challenges of the Caribbean.

The International University of the Caribbean was founded by the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands in November 2005. It consists of two educational entities: College for Leadership and Theological Development (CLTD) [formerly the Institute for Theological and Leadership Development] and the Mel Nathan College. These entities bring to the University a rich history of educational innovation, high academic and research standards, and a commitment to community engagement. The union of the two entities will serve to concretise their already existing strengths, while providing a platform for expansion and increased impact in the Caribbean and beyond.

The University has pledged to deliver affordable, accredited, tertiary education, to people who have the desire to empower themselves to meet the demands of a competitive global employment environment.

The International University of the Caribbean is characterised by a commitment to:

Leadership Formation
Accessibility
Student-friendly and student-focused orientation
Culture-specific programmes
Quality research and publication
Highly qualified staff

The Peace Studies Agenda

The University's spirit and character are intricately linked with the establishment of a Peace Studies Agenda. In this way, the University will commit itself to affirming the voice and values that honour the highest good of the people who fall within its sphere of influence. The University functions with the burden of knowledge of the 'shalom', that this, the Peace - a theologically potent and all-embracing terminology. Peace is elevated as the fundamental principle of health and the epitome of wholesome and purposeful living. Peace is taught, experienced and learned as the energy force that is life-giving. The Peace Studies Agenda will summon people from all walks of life to wrestle with and practise as a way of life the things that work for peace. In the near future all programmes offered at IUC will incorporate a peace-related course as part of the institution's commitment to engendering peace-making in its students.
