KINGSTON, Jamaica The section of Constant Spring Road, between Dunrobin Avenue and the Sandy Gully Bridge, which was reduced to single lane traffic yesterday afternoon has now been reopened and is accommodating the regular four-lanes of traffic travelling in either direction, the National Works Agency's (NWA) is advising motorists.
According to NWA Communication and Customer Services Manager, Stephen Shaw, work to effect emergency repairs to a break on an existing cast iron water pipe located in the area was completed earlier today. The area, he said, has been sufficiently backfilled to allow for the normal flow of traffic.
A section of the southbound carriageway had to be reduced to single lane for some time yesterday in order to carry out repairs to the broken pipeline. He said, the restrictions, which were introduced early on Monday, was not intended to persist for as long as it did.
However, the pipeline, which had to be completely drained to facilitate the works, was only ready to be worked on six hours after the water supply to the main was turned off. This would have delayed efforts to complete the repairs and backfill the area in a timelier manner, Shaw said.
