Food For The Poor-Jamaica recently donated equipment in support of the very first Boat Fest in Kingston Harbour. This will take place during the week of November 18 to 25, 2018 as part of the Kingston & St. Andrew Homecoming Week.
“We have provided flashlights, tote bags, raincoats, and life jackets to the Kingston Heritage Foundation for donation to participating artisanal fishermen,” said the Director of FFP Jamaica’s Agriculture and Fishing Unit, Nakhlé Hado.
“FFP-Jamaica is very pleased to be able to contribute to this special event. Our fishing programme aims to safeguard and improve the livelihood of the fisherfolk through sustainable fishing and the support of food security in Jamaica,” said Hado. “Improvement of the FFP existing established infrastructure, expansion, training, outreach interventions support, procurement of equipment and gears are some of the planned activities for 2019,” Hado added.
The Boat Fest, organised by the Kingston and St. Andrew Homecoming Development Foundation in collaboration with the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission, will take place on Sunday, November 25 at the Kingston Waterfront, Ocean Boulevard, commencing at 12:00 noon. More than 50 boats will parade across Kingston Harbour from Port Royal to Victoria Pier and back while narrators will enlighten the audience on the cultural and natural history of the Harbour, as part of a day of family-friendly events.
The Foundation is a not-for-profit non-governmental organisation, established in 2016. It aims to mobilise and encourage citizens of both parishes to use their human and financial resources for the development of the economic, educational, cultural and social capacity of the people.
